Becoming a Person of Peace

Becoming a Person of Peace

There was a time in my life where I struggled with extreme anxiety and fear. It felt like I could barely get through the day without feeling extremely overwhelmed. It was a true battlefield over my mind. The Lord took me to a verse that I had heard so many times in my life but for some reason it finally “clicked”.  “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Phillipians 4:6-7.

I believe living a life of peace is a choice. There are moments when we can allow our circumstances to steal our peace. God wants peace to reign over every aspect of our lives. He wants us to learn to trust His heart even when we don’t know His next move for us.

Because peace is a fruit of the spirit, I believe it is something that takes time to grow. When we ask for peace, God doesn’t just grant us peace, He gives us opportunities to choose peace in our circumstances. We must choose peace as the ruler over our circumstances rather than the other way around. It’s not the absence of conflict or trouble but a calmness in the midst of life’s circumstances. Jesus offers us peace but we have to choose it. We can either follow His command not to let our hearts be troubled, or we can continue in our anxiety and fear. We all experience doubt, worry, and fear but, as believers, we don’t have to hang on to them.

So today, I want to encourage you that becoming a person of peace is attainable. If you have a moment of confusion, worry, or intensity, STOP. Invite the peace of God to come, and choose peace because peace is your portion. You have the ability to invite the Holy Spirit into every circumstance to teach you to choose peace.

Much love,
